Aristotelia serrata (wineberry, makomako) is a fast-growing New Zealand native deciduous tree or large shrub in the Elaeocarpaceae family, typically reaching 5–15 metres tall with a spreading, open canopy, known for its reddish stems, serrated leaves, and clusters of small flowers followed by dark purple-black berries that are highly attractive to birds, thriving in forest margins and disturbed sites in full sun to partial shade, with moderate tolerance of wind, frost, and a wide range of well-drained soils.
