Meryta sinclairii, commonly known as puka, is a lush, tropical-looking New Zealand native shrub or small tree with very large, glossy dark green leaves, growing relatively quickly to around 5 m tall and 4 m wide, and it is widely used in coastal and sheltered gardens as a backdrop plant, for screening, or around outdoor living areas, while also being suitable for container growing indoors for a few years before planting out, provided it is kept in warm, frost-free conditions.
