Hedycarya arborea, commonly known as pigeonwood, is a medium-sized New Zealand native tree with glossy green leaves, fragrant greenish flowers, and clusters of bright orange-red berries, typically found in lowland and coastal forests where it thrives in partial to full shade and well-drained, organic-rich soil, and it plays an important ecological role by attracting native birds and supporting forest biodiversity while also adding ornamental value to native gardens.
