Astelia chathamica ‘Silver Spear’ is a striking New Zealand native perennial with bold, upright clumps of long, arching silver-grey strap-like leaves, typically growing around 1–1.5 metres tall and wide, valued for its architectural form and strong colour contrast in modern, coastal, and native landscapes.
It prefers full sun to partial shade in free-draining soils and is highly tolerant of wind, salt spray, and drought once established, making it ideal for exposed sites, while being only light frost tolerant and performing best in sheltered conditions in colder areas.
